Glen Innes Bellydance teacher, Helen Tucker, started her business ‘Shimmy in the Glen’ in 2019 due to popular demand from friends and other members of the local community in asking for regular classes. After a brief hiatus during COVID, Helen now runs a weekly class with an occasional workshop on weekends.

Through Bellydance, Helen helps people – ladies and gents – connect with their bodies and learn to move them in new and beautiful ways. This connection is an important step in building confidence and awareness within themselves, and Helen further encourages her students to join the local ‘Shimmy Mob’ team to grow awareness of their support of the community.

While ‘Shimmy Mob’ is an international event held on World Bellydance Day in May, Helen and the ‘Shimmy Mob Team Glen Innes’ dancers hold regular Shimmy Mob events around their local community. The group takes every opportunity to show the beauty of belly dance to the general public, and uses the fun of a bellydance flash mob to support their community by raising awareness about domestic abuse and funds for support services.
